Terms of Service

The agreement between you and us when you use Chronly.

Effective date: 1 September 2026

The short version

  • Chronly is a diary and an information tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat or advise. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
  • Food scores are estimates based on published research about populations. They do not describe how a food will affect you.
  • Chronly is a paid subscription with a 7-day free trial, sold and billed by Apple. Cancel in your iPhone's Settings at least 24 hours before the trial or period ends to avoid being charged. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel your subscription.
  • Your logs stay on your phone. We do not hold a copy, so export them if you want one.
  • What you log and scan is yours. We use it only to run Chronly, never to train AI and never to sell.
  • French law applies, and you keep the protections of the consumer law where you live.

§1 Who we are

Chronly is provided by Maxime PARISY, a sole trader (entrepreneur individuel) registered in France, SIRET 833 046 279.

Contact: contact@chronly.app

In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Maxime PARISY. "You" means the person using Chronly. "Chronly" or "the app" means the Chronly iOS app and the services behind it.

§2 Agreeing to these terms

You accept these terms when you create your Chronly account. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal data. It is a separate document, and these terms do not replace it.

If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use Chronly.

§3 What Chronly does

Chronly is for people living with chronic inflammatory conditions. It lets you:

  • Keep a daily diary of your symptoms, sleep, stress, energy, wellbeing and meals.
  • Scan food, by photo or barcode, and see an inflammation score with the main things behind it.
  • See summaries of your own logs, and short summaries of published research that point to the paper each one comes from.
  • Set reminders, export your data and delete your account, all from inside the app.

A subscription gives you access to the features in the app at the time you use it. Section 12 explains how features may change.

§4 Chronly is not medical advice

Chronly is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Everything it shows, including scores, summaries of your logs and research summaries, is general information to help you notice things and talk them over with your care team.

  • Always ask your doctor or another qualified health professional about your condition, your treatment or your diet.
  • Never start, stop or change a treatment or a diet because of something Chronly shows you, and never delay getting medical advice because of it.
  • Chronly is not an emergency service. It does not watch your logs and does not alert anyone. Chronly may suggest getting medical care when you log some symptoms, but it cannot notice every symptom that needs attention. If you think you may need urgent care, call your local emergency number (112 in the EU, 999 in the UK, 911 in the US and Canada) or go to the nearest emergency department.
  • When Chronly shows a link between something you logged and how you felt, it is describing your own records. It does not show that one thing caused the other.
  • If eating, food or tracking starts to feel stressful, it is fine to take a break from logging. A health professional can help.

§5 About the food score

The score is an estimate. To work out what is in a photo, Chronly uses an AI image-recognition service. To identify a barcode, it uses the public Open Food Facts database. It then calculates a score from published nutrition and scientific reference data. That means:

  • Recognition can be wrong. The AI can misidentify a food or miss one, and a product record can be incomplete or out of date. Please check what Chronly recognised before relying on the result.
  • A score describes a food, not you. It is based on research about groups of people. How a food affects you depends on many things the score cannot see, such as the amount you eat, how it was prepared, your medication and your own body.
  • Words like "lower" and "higher" describe where a food sits on our scale. They do not mean a food is good or bad, safe or unsafe for you.
  • Some foods and products cannot be scored, or can only be given a provisional result, when too little of them can be identified.
  • Our method can improve over time. A scan you have already saved keeps the score it was given, and we do not change past results without telling you.

How the score is calculated is described at chronly.app/methodology.

§6 Who can use Chronly, and your account

You must be at least 16 to use Chronly.

You sign in with Apple. Your account is personal to you, so please do not share it. Tell us at contact@chronly.app if you think someone else is using it.

Your diary lives on your phone, so anyone who can unlock it can see your diary, export it or delete your account. Please keep your phone protected with a passcode or Face ID.

§7 Subscription, free trial and cancellation

Chronly requires a subscription. There is no free tier. The plans and prices are shown in the app before you buy, including taxes, and may differ by country.

Apple sells and bills the subscription. Payment, renewal, cancellation and refunds are handled by Apple under the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. We never see your payment details.

Free trial

New subscribers get a 7-day free trial, once per Apple Account. You are not charged during the trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, the plan you chose starts and Apple charges you. We aim to remind you before the trial ends, but reminders depend on your notification settings and are not guaranteed. The date that counts is the one shown in your Apple Account's subscription settings.

Automatic renewal

Subscriptions renew automatically for the same length of time (a month or a year) at the price then in force, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.

How to cancel

Go to Settings ▸ [your name] ▸ Subscriptions on your iPhone, or use Profile ▸ Subscription in Chronly, which takes you there. After you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Deleting Chronly or deleting your Chronly account does not cancel your subscription. Only Apple can cancel it. Please cancel before deleting.

Refunds

Apple handles refund requests, at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you are in the EU or the UK, you may have a statutory right to withdraw from the purchase. Apple explains how that right works for App Store purchases in its terms. Nothing in these terms limits a refund that the law or Apple gives you.

Price changes

If a subscription price changes, Apple tells you beforehand and, where the law or Apple's rules require it, asks you to agree before you are charged the new price. If you do not agree, you can cancel.

§8 Fair use and scan limits

Scanning uses paid third-party services, so there is a daily scan limit, currently 25 scans in any 24 hours. That is well above everyday use. If a scan fails because of a problem on our side, it does not count toward the limit. We may change the limit to keep Chronly running, and if we lower it substantially we will tell you in advance.

§9 Your data and your content

Your content stays yours. This covers what you log, the photos you scan and anything you type ("your content").

What you allow us to do with it

You give us permission to store, process and display your content only to provide Chronly to you. That includes sending a photo you scan to our image-recognition provider, which only identifies the food in it. This permission:

  • does not let us use your content to train AI models, or allow our providers to;
  • does not let us sell your content, share it for advertising or publish it;
  • ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from the copies our Privacy Policy says we keep, for the time it says.

Your diary is not backed up by us

Your symptoms, sleep, stress, wellbeing and meals are stored on your phone and not on our servers. If you lose your phone or delete the app, we cannot restore them. Use Profile ▸ Your data ▸ Export to keep a copy of your own.

Photos

Only scan pictures you are entitled to use, and avoid photographing other people. If a person does appear in a photo, you are responsible for having their permission.

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, where it is stored, how long we keep it and your rights over it.

§10 Acceptable use

When you use Chronly, please do not:

  • break the law or anyone else's rights;
  • copy, decompile, reverse-engineer or try to extract the source code of the app, except where the law expressly allows it;
  • scrape or bulk-extract scores, research summaries or any other content, or use Chronly to build a competing product or dataset;
  • get around the scan limit, the subscription or any security measure, or use someone else's account;
  • use automated tools to access Chronly, or overload or disrupt its servers;
  • upload anything unlawful, or anything that contains malware.

§11 Our rights in Chronly

The app, its design, text, scores, research summaries, method and the name "Chronly" belong to us or to the people who licensed them to us. They are protected by intellectual property law.

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Chronly on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, while your subscription is active and within Apple's Usage Rules. We keep every right these terms do not expressly give you.

Research papers and third-party data belong to their owners. Food product information comes from Open Food Facts, made available under the Open Database License. Research summaries cite the published papers they draw on, and those papers belong to their authors and publishers.

§12 Changes to Chronly, and availability

We are continually improving Chronly. We may add, change or remove features, for example to improve accuracy, meet legal or clinical requirements, or keep the service secure.

We will not take away a core part of what your subscription pays for (the daily diary, food scanning, the summaries of your logs, export and account deletion) without telling you in advance. If a change of that kind puts you at a real disadvantage, you can cancel, and you may be entitled to a refund under consumer law.

We aim to keep Chronly available, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for maintenance or because of problems with our providers or your connection. Scanning needs an internet connection. The diary does not.

If we stop providing Chronly altogether, we will give you at least 30 days' notice so that you can export your data, and we will stop any further renewal charges. Any refund for time already paid will follow the applicable law and Apple's refund process.

§13 Ending the agreement

You can stop whenever you like. Cancel your subscription (§7), then delete your account in Profile ▸ Your data. Deleting your account removes your data as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms (for example, by trying to get around the subscription or the scan limit, or attacking the service), or if the law requires us to. Unless that would be unlawful or would undermine security, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond first, along with time to export your data. If we close your account without a good reason under these terms, you may be entitled to a refund for the unused period.

The parts of these terms that are meant to continue after the agreement ends, such as §9's limits on how we use your content, §15 and §18, continue to apply.

§15 Our responsibility to you

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to take reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, or that was not caused by us.

In particular, we are not responsible for:

  • decisions about your health, treatment or diet taken without the professional advice §4 asks you to seek;
  • the loss of diary data stored only on your phone, where the loss comes from something outside our control, such as a lost or reset device;
  • the services of Apple, Open Food Facts or other third parties, beyond our own obligations under these terms;
  • any business or commercial loss, since Chronly is for personal use.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for gross or intentional misconduct, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

§16 Apple

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. As far as your use of Chronly through the App Store is concerned:

  • We, not Apple, are responsible for Chronly and its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Chronly.
  • If Chronly does not conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the extent the law permits, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Chronly.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claim about Chronly, including product liability claims, claims that Chronly fails to comply with a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar law.
  • If anyone claims that Chronly or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
  • You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you are not on a US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you.

Questions or complaints about Chronly go to us at contact@chronly.app.

§17 Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when Chronly changes or the law does. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can cancel before then (§7). A change never applies to a period you have already paid for in a way that disadvantages you, unless the law requires it. Changes needed only to meet a legal requirement, or that make no difference to you, may take effect sooner.

The current version is always at chronly.app/terms, with its effective date.

§18 Law, complaints and disputes

Please talk to us first. Most problems are solved fastest by emailing contact@chronly.app. We reply within 14 days.

Governing law. These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer living in another country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of that country.

Courts. If you are a consumer, you can bring proceedings in the courts where you live, or in the French courts. If you live in the UK, you can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, wherever you live.

§19 General

  • If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest still applies.
  • If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
  • We may transfer this agreement to anyone who takes over Chronly. We will tell you, and your rights under these terms will not be reduced. You may not transfer your account or this agreement to anyone else.
  • These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Chronly, together with Apple's terms for your purchase.
  • These terms are written in English.
